about

I wrote this poem in late March/early April of 2020- the very beginning of the pandemic.

lyrics

I don’t know anything more than anyone
I just know what I’ve seen
What I’ve learned
what I’ve learned to unlearned
What I’ve lived

I’ve seen the sunrise on the Mediterranean Sea
My friends swimming in the freezing water
The locals said on a clear day you could see Africa
I didn’t, but, I just might say I did

I’ve seen the cliffs of Dover in the afternoon from a ferry on the English Channel
The white chalk reflecting light bright as three suns
And the filthy docks, furnaces, and industrial cranes below them
They don’t show that on the postcards

I’ve seen Stonehenge and The Worlds Biggest Prairie Dog, Wall-Drug and The Thing, South Of The Border

The Brandenburg Gate, The Somme, Antietam, and Hadrian’s Wall

Belgrade, Dublin, Sacramento, Montreal, and New Orleans

I’ve lived through baseball games and terrorist attacks

But I ain’t never seen nothing like this, no, no, I ain’t never seen nothing like this...

I’ve seen the sun rise on the Mediterranean Sea
The locals said on a clear day you could see Africa
And by god, I did
