about
A recorded poem by Shane Sweeney
lyrics
My God is a tree,
a towering sycamore that lives down near the river
it doesn't ask me to pray to it
so I don't whisper wishes to it's branches
it doesn't tell me that it is the only true god
So I see the other trees and i can appreciate their beauty
It doesn't offer me sweet hereafter
So I am always present with it
It doesn't tell me that I am right
or that I am wrong
that I am good, or bad
So I am all things; left to my own devices
People see my god and they say
"what a marvelous tree!"
`Then they wan to classify it
Then They want to record it
Then they want to preserve it
But, one day my god will die
and one day I will die
The right, The wrong
the beauty and the wishes
will all be gone
and that's okay
that's comforting
My god is a tree
and I leave god to god
and it leaves me to me

Micah is one of my favorite songwriters around, and also an all around gentleman and scholar. Both his solo work and his work with Two Cow Garage seem to work their way into my regular music rotation with ease. doug shaw
