Late Spring Delilah
04:15

Yeah you, late spring Delilah cutting ribbons right on cue
Yeah you, staring right between, I wonder how it feels to never have to look into
But I'm still trying hard to get it back to where its not a one handed prayer
I turn to look and find that you were never there
Yeah you, calling up to see you when you had forgotten to
Yeah you, shooting down the stars, I've come to recognize that painted daggers pointed truth
But I still dont know what it means to settle down
like a tin foil crown I dare to look and find that you are not around
And I never put no meaning in the holy church
using faithful, blind believers like a holy crutch
and I keep saying there's no heaven but I almost find it
every moment that we touch
when we touch, that's enough
And I, split myself in two to consecrate an alibi
and I, never known the peace like the peace of mind I've found with your hand hanging by my side
and thats a peace Ive only known when you are there
like a child thrown in the air
the only truth is when you're really self aware

95 Theses

Rosin the bow and watch the ashes fall
the smoke it lies heavy like a fog over the land
I'm past the point of feeling pain at all
like the way a shell slowly erodes into sand
but I feel relived to know we're equal now
recognizing even solid arches will fail
at thats something you'll have to figure out
realize the weight of blame lies even on the scale
I've listed all my faults, I've tacked my theses to the door
and yeah I've got them memorized for sure
and its true that every cent I've owned has slipped right through my hand
but that dont make me a bad man
The horns have blown the walls are tumbling down
through the smoke and rubble lies a path clear through to leave
we're past the point to reconcile now
like a weight once lifted makes it easier to breathe
but I feel relieved to know we're equal now
recognizing a rising tide will bring all ships ashore
and thats something you'll have to figure out
realize we're better than just better off before
I've listed all my faults, I've tacked my theses to the door
and yeah I've got them memorized for sure
and it's true I've made some choices that you wont understand
but that dont make me a bad man
that dont make me a bad man

Complex Ecosystems

I'd still be sitting in my bedroom in a corner
up against the wall
if it had not been for you
trying to pry somebody new out of this empty shell
and we would never know the truth
that the world does have a use
for the broken and abused
and that we have nothing to lose
inside these prison cells
We could be half way to Chicago, or, Madrid
if you would only call
and we could rectify our youth
do all the things we didnt do
when we were scared as hell
That we'd never find the truth
and that the world wont have a use
for the broken and abused
and that we have nothing to prove
unless its to ourselves
but, the heart and mind are complex ecosystems
that are filled with doubt
and with beauty and regret
but I ain't met no one yet who didn't have the fear
That they'd never find the truth
and that the world wont have a use
for the broken and abused
but if you have nothing to lose
it becomes quite clear
We're all looking for the truth
and the world does have a use
and we're all broken and abused
but we have nothing to prove
unless its to ourselves

The Backlight
03:01
|

I should have given up that scene
watch the ashes fall from your cigarette
what could that mean
and you made your way from this one to that
like the May Queen
In a parking lot confessional night
I was hoping against hoping that I got the words right
But I guess I never know enough, to let it be
I always take it all too far
as if each letter held an ounce of regret
all dying stars
I made a promise that I'd let you go back
and I played that card
but I'd really love to see you today
and I'm hoping against hoping that you feel the same way
but, I guess I've got the room on my back for one more scar
and I'm not saying that you owe me more, than what we've had
and I know that its no good to become a world record fad
I'd like to break all of these tensions down
before they end in spite
But I'd really love to see you tonight
and I'm hoping against hoping that you're doing alright
but, I guess I can always fade in the backlight

Nobody Asked To Be Born
04:22
|

Aaron tried to fight all of his pain
he'd walk through the halls keeping people afraid
and the Homecoming Queen and three kids that they had
now have a habit for a mother and a ghost for a dad
but I guess they still whisper his name
Nobody asked to be born
to wander the dark wondering what you're here for
nobody asked to be born
John put that gun in his mouth
With a whole town so proud the day that he shipped out
well his body came home but his nerves they did not
it took a heroes courage to fire that shot
Now there's just a flag blowing over his grave
Nobody asked to be born
to wander the dark wondering what you're here for
Nobody asked to be born
Laura had something to say
But they said "Bury it deep, boy, you should be ashamed"
but she left the door open for the whole world to see
that every man and every woman should be, who the feel they should be
and that you don't have to kill to be brave
Nobody asked to be born
to wander the dark wondering what you're here for
Nobody asked to be born
Nobody asked to be born
